Bytetide - A migration software for migrating from anywhere to Shopify

This software was built based on my experience within data migration of online stores. Through my years as a freelance developer, I migrated a handful of webshops to Shopify and saw firsthand how complex and time‑consuming the process can become, especially when dealing with unstructured source data and the need for extensive data formatting.

The solution was to build a flexible migration engine with 100% data mapping control. I developed a custom mapping system that uses a JSON template format to define how source data should be transformed and structured for Shopify. To handle more advanced cases, the system lets the user write mapping logic using JavaScript‑like code, making it powerful enough to handle edge cases without hardcoding rules for each migration.

The entire stack is built in Node.js and Next.js, with a REST API backend that communicates with a responsive frontend for managing migrations. For data operations, it leverages the Shopify GraphQL API to ensure fast and reliable data syncs with zero downtime.

I validated the solution with a paying pilot client, successfully migrating their store while allowing for real‑time previews, incremental updates, and SEO‑safe redirects. However, I had to put the project on hold to focus on my primary startup, Trendbook.
